The Dublin Area Art League fall member’s show if currently taking place at the Dublin Community Recreation Center at 5600 Post Road in Dublin, Ohio, and the show looks great. With over forty artworks on display, this year’s exhibit is a excellent showing of the high level of talent and ability that the DAAL has long been known for. This year’s judge, well-know Lima, Ohio painter, Ruth Ann Sturgill said she had her work cut out for her in making the award selections. After much thought and deliberation, her choices were: The Best in Show: “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” Patricia Getha First Place: “Daydreams” Nancy St. Clair Second Place: “Winter Geese” Stephanie Moon Third Place: “One of Those Moments” Bonnie Smith Fourth Place: “Receding Skyline” Bev Goldie Honorable Mention: “Autumn Tapestry” Michelle Morris Honorable Mention: “The Inception” Dennis Velco The show will be on display through December 3rd, and is…

ATTENTION! Entry forms for the 2011 Fall Member’s show are due by Thursday, November 3rd. It’s that time of year again. This year’s fall DAAL member’s show will be held at the Dublin Community Recreation Center from Saturday, November 5th to Saturday, December 3rd. Not only is it a great way to get your work out in the public eye and to see what other member’s have been working on over the summer, but it’s a fun way to be more involved in the league and get better acquainted with members you may not know so well. Cindy Bryden has volunteered to Chair the event (thank you Cindy) and I’m sure she would be happy to have some other members step up and offer her assistance. Email her at cjbryden@wowway.com if you would like to help. More details and downloadable entry forms can be found here.

Photographs can evoke emotional responses that transcend human speech and the written word. Such is the impact of the images of Shifting Perspectives, a poignant photography exhibition that provides insight into the joy and wonder of what it is to be human – and living with Down syndrome. Dublin Arts Council will host the American debut of  Shifting Perspectives from Sept. 27 – Nov. 4, 2011 in the DAC gallery located at 7125 Riverside Drive, in Dublin, Ohio. Originating in the United Kingdom, this unique exhibition has traveled to Turkey, Canada and Colombia, before coming to the United States. Shifting Perspectives consists of a selection of photographs, taken over a nine-year period by photographers in the United Kingdom that depict the everyday interactions of people of all ages who are living with Down syndrome. Removed from stereotype and prejudice, the photographs challenge conventional attitudes and are the catalyst for renewed…

This Year’s Dublin Art Fair Was a Huge Success!

daf2011-680x280

The 2011 Dublin Art Fair has come and gone, and thanks to the combined efforts of everyone involved, was bigger and better than our previous art fairs. In spite of the near-record heat on Saturday visitor turn out was great. Many artists reported good traffic and sales. Because of the increase in the number of participating artists, this year’s fair covered much more territory, and had a new, easy to navigate, layout that both artists and visitors seemed to enjoy. Special thanks are in order for everyone who helped out… Sponsors… Acura Columbus City Scene Magazine Columbus Monthly Magazine Dublin Cleaner’s Dublin Life Magazine Honda of Marysville Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams The Rusty Bucket Tim Hortons Catering Trusty & Company Window Pro WOW Cable From Grand Scheme Promotions… Sandy Libertini Melinda Moore DAAL members and their family and friends… Bev Goldie Rich Sharick Jean Moffitt (and her husband Tom) Gina…

In Ohio Arts Council, The Arts in Ohio

The Ohio Arts Council and Ohio Citizens for the Arts sends its congratulations to arts advocates statewide! Through a strong and united advocacy effort they are pleased to share with you that funding for arts and culture, through the Ohio Arts Council’s state budget appropriation, has increased by 62.1% for FY2012-13 compared to the proposed Executive budget. This can also be noted as a 30.5% increase over the FY2010-2011 actual appropriation. The FY2012-2013 appropriation includes $6 million in state subsidy (grant funds) and $600,000 for OAC’s administrative costs. OAC Executive Director, Julie S. Henahan, said in the July/August 2011 issue of ‘artsOhio’, the OAC’s eletter, “After a series of significant reductions to our budget totaling 47 percent since the beginning of the FY2008/2009 biennium, we are deeply grateful for the increase in funding to the OAC’s budget that was signed into law by Governor Kasich at the end of June….

Re-Union: David Bamber & Andrew F. Scott at DAC, June 28 — Aug. 12

Re-Union: David Bamber and Andrew F. Scott will be on view in the Dublin Arts Council (DAC) main gallery, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, from June 28 through Aug. 12 Reunions imply a coming together for family and friends based on a connection or association. Such is the case for artists David Bamber of Columbus and Andrew F. Scott, a professor of sculpture at the Savannah, Georgia, College of Art and Design. The artists first met as graduate students at The Ohio State University, became studio mates in the sculpture department and began a collaborative association that would span 18 years of sharing the same creative space. During this time, they worked together on the fourth commission of DAC’s Dublin Art in Public Places program, creating the interior relief sculpture series that was unveiled when the Dublin Community Recreation Center opened in 1996. The exhibition marks the first time that…

In Community Events, Local Exhibits

In addition to an exhibit of work by the artists who participated in the 2011 Paint Out, the Dublin Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library has another new opportunity to view art at the library.   Michael Blackwell, Manager of the CML Dublin told me that the Dublin branch of the library and Dublin Arts Council have recently expanded their partnership to include ongoing art displays in the library. Exhibits will rotate every 2 months, providing library customers a chance to enjoy artworks both local and international. This month the display is of pieces by Japanese Ceramicist Masayuki Miyajima, whose works have become popular in individual and corporate collections in the U.S. and who is an apprentice of Shimaoke Tatsuzo (designated a “Living National Treasure” by the Japanese government).

The 2011 Paint Out was a Big Success

paintoutexhibit2011

Cindy Bryden says that they had a beautiful day for the 8th Annual Paint Out this past Saturday.  Thirteen people painted for the day and of those 10 entered the painting contest. Fran Mangino was the judge and had some very positive and constructive critical analysis of the paintings. Visit the Dublin Library to see the paintings and begin the Art Stroll. The cash awards go to: 1st place: Tom Cole for his entry of the Dublin Village Tavern. Fran really liked his composition and values. The play of shadows and light could have been better organized on the left side of the door but overall a strong piece. 2nd place: Rachel Ramm  for her entry of the white house with the red geraniums. Fran comments are: nice light on the house, need to extend a bit of dark green to the left of the house to keep the house…
