Mindy Newman
|
Watercolor began for me at Columbus College of Art and Design in 1976, when I was working as the assistant fine art librarian. I was offered free classes with Leland McClelland and that continued for four years, while I was studying the history of art. My favorite American Artist was Winslow Homer and I would try to emulate his style as much as possible. Four years later, I was married to an artist and co-owner of my own art supply store called The Artists' Workshop on N. High Street. Then began the teaching of painting and drawing classes in Dublin at the Recreation Center, Franklin Park Conservatory, OSU Creative Arts Programs, Cultural Arts Center, and various random workshops. I've been interested in painting people at the North Market, teaching drawing to children, but my greatest love has always been the botanicals. They are live models, easy to be comfortable painting, and gloriously sensual and exotic .Painting from life is the most honest way to paint. It's based on light, the colors heal my students and give them strength. |
